I’m a sewing fairy godmother, process improvement oracle, creativity enabler, and tender space-holder

I identify as a magical genius in what I do, more than an expert, although I have developed a considerable measure of expertise. What makes me different from other so-called experts, is that I believe there are a hundred ways to make the same thing rather than a singular right way.

I have tried just about everything, so I gladly serve as a resource and give answers to questions, but I readily admit I don’t know everything. I participate in any workshop as much as lead it. I have been told I have a comforting presence and enthusiasm for making that translates well to a connected group of makers.

I believe that by creating in community, we create a community

My honest belief that creativity is a practice, not a talent. This means that creativity is accessible to anyone looking for it. By attracting people interested in mindful making, our maker community is self-selecting. No one chooses us. We choose ourselves.

Focusing on the process, especially when learning something new, can occupy the space in our brains where anxiety lives, so the rest of our minds can be free, even for a little while.

When we aren’t worried about the outcome, we can find beauty in our work, ourselves, and each other. We can create a habit of approaching endeavors with a Beginner’s Mind. This practice changes us from within, making us more patient, more creative, more grounded and present, and more open.

Choosing to make something by hand when you could otherwise buy it identifies you as a certain kind of person: a maker.

And that is a badge you can wear on your heart, no matter where your experience places you on the spectrum of curious to artisan.
