A scene from daily life. Today we have spent the day talking about race, white supremacy, and white fragility. We talked about how it’s our responsibility to stand up to injustice, and to keep learning.
We have talked about human rights their whole lives. I grew up in a family that never talked openly about hard topics. Everything was swept under the rug of white privilege.
I am reading a research paper on knitting and the healing of trauma, and it brought me back to this book. It takes me more than once to digest the information. It’s a book about how all manner of handcrafting can help us heal our trauma. Written from years of experience and research with different populations, it’s been so helpful to me in my own process and in my teaching.

I signed a lease January 1, 2020.
I’ve been slowly setting it up for sewing lessons, and custom clothing fittings, and shipping orders, and meditation, and various handcrafts to make together with a community I hoped to build. In person. Together.
I don’t talk about this often. I’d much rather focus on making beautiful things.
I used to come here every other week for these until the pandemic. Since I had to come anyway, we’re popping in a bag of goodies while I’m here. My veins don’t like being poked, so it’s almost always painful. But worth it. I have a gene mutation that prevents my body from breaking down nutrients and toxins completely.
I wish my cells would read some Marie Kondo, because this does not spark joy.
