Sewing for Sensitive People: Jul 7th, 2022 at 12-1 pacific

So, if you haven’t heard about @themakingapp and you’re a maker, I am inviting you (again) to head over and sign up. It’s so lovely. It’s like here back in the olden days, but with art and handcrafts and classes.

Speaking of classes, I have a one-hour lecture, demo, and Q&A over there coming up on one of my favorite topics: Sewing for Sensitive People.

As more and more people are being diagnosed with sensory issues, understanding how to make clothing comfortable is more than just a kindness, it's a necessity. Sewing for yourself, your family, or friends with special needs and sensitivities is easier than you might think, and the skills you learn will help you sew more comfortable clothes for yourself as well.

Who doesn't want to walk through life in secret pajamas? Ready To Wear has come a long way, but there is more we can do than tagless shirts and wearing socks inside-out.

What you will learn:

  • Why being physically uncomfortable takes up mental and emotional space, whether you have a diagnosis or not.

  • What are the neurological benefits of doing what we can to make ourselves comfortable can change our home and school experiences.

  • How can we make a difference in what we already own or while planning what we’re making? We’ll go over seam finishes for ultra-smooth clothing, and some easy modifications for store-bought clothes, whether to address sensory issues or honor your personal preference.

There's no reason our clothing can't be as cozy as our sleepwear on the inside. We can all benefit from a little more softness in our wardrobes.

You can sign up free for the app, and the exchange for my class is $28

I hope to see you there!
